Amy's Painted Saint... Brewery ?!

Amy's Painted Saint... Brewery ?!

Posted by Amy Bolin on 6th Mar 2015

My Dad saved me a handful of really cool beer bottles because he thought I could - maybe - paint something on them.

Challenge accepted!

Here is my very first hand painted, one of a kind piece of beer bottle art!  I can't think of anything else to call it, so we'll go with that.  I'm going to post pictures of this project from start to finish.  I hope you enjoy this journey!

This time I started with a sketch...  Painting on objects intimidates me!  I like to have an image to look at to keep me on track.

After prepping the bottle, I started "sketching" Bernie in white paint.  Luckily I got him right the first time!  He doesn't look like much yet :)

After my initial white paint sketch I jump right in with color.  I like to make sure the main focus of the piece is just right before filling in all of the background details - makes it easier for me to correct my mistakes.

Now Bernie is looking pretty good!  Time to figure out how to put the background in... I'm going for a "beer label" look.

I need to make him pop out.

Time to decide whether or not to continue!  This is where I usually bog down and quit - I am afraid to go too far and add too much, make it cluttery and confusing.  But, I have a cute little name and catch phrase that I want to use - I did spend a bit of time thinking it over, after all :)

After a bit of deliberation, I decide to continue...

The lettering goes on!

Now, I had initially written "Get Yer Paws Off!" for the ribbon.  WAAAAYY too much lettering - it would never fit.  Shorten to "PAWS OFF!"  add a little paw print to the ribbon and also to the cap, voila!  Finished painting.

THIS was a fun project.  I still have a couple more bottles in my studio - now I just have to decide whether I stick with this theme or branch off into lager, root beer, moonshine... I could have fun with this!

Sorry! This one is sold... Take a peek at my "Original Artwork" category, there may be another bottle there.. :)
