Decorative Plate #2! Blue Merle Sheltie

Here is today's painting project!  I hope you enjoy this little creative journey.

These plates start with a paint sketch to get the size/shape down.

Once I'm happy with the layout, I start filling in my design with layers of paint - it's tough on these printed plates to make sure most of the underlying design in covered!

Blue Merles are fun and intimidating - all those gorgeous shades swirled together!  Too much mixing will make mud (and, eventually my merle will have to become a tri color :)  )  This time, I'm careful not to over do.

A little touch up around the eyes, build the muzzle and nose into the painting.  Next come the tan/gold spots above the eyes and muzzle!

Finishing details make a huge difference.  Filling in just a touch of color around the ears, muzzle, eyes - and of course, those tan spots!

All done, this plate is ready for it's new home.
